However, before you set out on your blogging journey, it’s important that you have a blogging plan. Without one, you risk fizzling out.

The first question you should ask yourself is, “Who am I writing for?” It’s important that you have a clear and concise answer before penning a single post. Writing a successful blog is about targeting the right audience, and catering your content to them.
• Who? What people do you want to reach? Consider whether you hope to reach both male and female, or just one or the other. The more specific you are, the better you’ll be.
• What? Do you know what topics you want to cover? You should have a clear idea of the categories and subject matter you want to write about.
Increase Your Traffic
When it comes to writing a good blog, you’ll go nowhere without readers. Who wants to spend hours writing the next viral blog post if it’s never going to go viral? It’s important that you are prepared to generate your own traffic. When the time comes to monetize, you’ll need a large traffic influx established to make your money.
• Guest posting – This is a great way to get traffic and increase your credibility. People like your guest post, click through to your website, and traffic spikes.
• Commenting – To be successful with your blog, it’s important that you make friends within your blogging communities. A smart way to interact and increase traffic is by commenting. Get your name and site out there for the masses.
• Blog directories – Blogging directory sites give you a chance to be seen by an audience you would otherwise never reach. Choose a directory with a high page rank. There is a variety of options available both free and for a monthly fee.
Plan an SEO Strategy
With good SEO tactics, your blog will be at the top of search rankings, have a high PR and hundreds of unique visitors. There are a number of ways you can increase this, and it’s important that you have it in mind at all times.
• Keywords in content – In your website title, post titles, subtitles, etc, keywords are what people use to find you. If you don’t utilize them you’ll stay lost in the shuffle.
• Submit to Google – Google has an easy, step by step process to submit your sitemap and website to their search engine. This gives you the chance to be crawled by Google search spiders, and get indexed.
• Social media – After each post, it’s critical that you get it out to every social network you’re a part of. The more your website is found online, the better chance you have of ranking and reaching readers.
Creating a blogging plan is as important as writing up a business plan. Like writing a good blog post, if you don’t know where it’s going, you end up lost in the middle. When you have a clear vision of what you want, you are more likely to navigate there successfully.
